The other day, I came across this Instagram reel that pokes fun at how Millennials fear color in their homes unless it's green. And you know what? I feel seen. Almost every throw pillow, blanket, and knick-knack in my house is a muted green. What can I say—it’s the color I feel safe with.
Green isn’t just a soothing aesthetic choice for me; it's also how I try to live my life. Take my house, for example. Beyond the soft green kitchen cabinets, I aim to make choices that are grounded in sustainability. From composting our food scraps to opting for eco-friendly cleaning products, I’m constantly looking for little swaps that can become lifelong habits.
Just like how green accents effortlessly fit into any room (or at least, in my rooms), I want sustainability to be a natural part of my daily routines. Living green is like those muted greens—once you start, it’s easy to see how it naturally pairs with everything else.
And it’s not just me, living sustainably has officially gone from a fringe movement to something that’s actually *cool.* When I look at my son, I know I want him to grow up understanding that sustainability isn’t a passing fad or something we did because it was cool for a while. It’s the way forward. Whether it’s using a clothing rental service for his outfits or explaining why we take reusable bags to the store, I’m planting the seeds for habits that will hopefully last him a lifetime.
So I guess I’m saying, I’m fully leaning into the green—both in decor and in life. Because as far as I’m concerned, it’s the color of the future. And I’ll take all the muted green I can get.
